Meeting Lucy

Driving past Memorial Park at Asan Beach on Guam (Micronesia) I overtook an odd couple. A man was walking down the side of the road accompanied by a carabao (water buffalo). Both were walking rather jauntily, rythmically swinging from side to side.
The sight just was too good to be true. So I pulled over and, camera at the ready, I waited for the pair to catch up. As they came closer, I could hear the man singing to the buffalo, in rhythm with their steps...
What struck me was that he walked down a busy road with the rope looped around his neck...one sudden jerk by the buffalo and he'd been either strangled or yanked off his feet. That's some serious trust I thought..
When they got close, I asked him whether it was ok to have taken a few photos of them (yes) and then was introduced to Lucy who replied with a friendly snort.
They were en route from Piti to Hagatnia and yes he trusted Lucy without reserve. I was so taken by Lucy that only much later that day I realised I had totally forgotten to ask her handler for his name...
