Foggy Days

When my mother-n-law first showed me JPG I got very excited! I had always liked taking photos but before it was snapshots of my children on their birthdays, holidays, etc. But I looked through some of the wonderful photos on the site and realized that I had a deeper interest for the camera.
As I started to experiment and get creative my love for the way I could express myself through the lens flourished and a deep seeded passion was implanted within me. This was back in February 2008. Back then here in Oregon we were still in the rainy season but getting ready to pull out of it. I spent most of my time then setting up shots of things on my kitchen table, I did a lot of creating with my shots and not so much with anything outdoors although I did really like macro then (I was using a Canon Powershot A540 with a 10x macro filter connected) so I would macro the backyard.
Spring started to come on and and with it a whole new world of eye grabbing things. Blossoms were everywhere, the sun was out! I started doing so much more outside the home (although mainly near my house).
As the seasons changed and my photography took on a life of it's own I noticed all the small changes that came along with the changing seasons. Autumn was near and I began to dread it! I thought back to those first days of setting up shots in the house and hardly ever venturing outside for photography. What would I do?
The kids went back to school and after a few weeks of getting up oh so early I went out to wait with my son for the school bus when what did my eyes behold but a wonderland of beauty, something different than I would have ever imagined overtook my senses. The fog had come in over the night and laid a thick blanket upon the earth. I told my son "wait right here" (the bus picks him up right in front of the house) and I ran in and grabbed my other eye. I took a few shots and after I got my son on the bus I walked around the neighborhood for about 45 minutes relishing in this new way of seeing the beauty with each season.
I think fog has become my favorite thing to photograph as I love moody shots and the fog gives off certain feelings for me. Sometimes it can make a photo look majestic while other times it can look ominous of things to come and sometimes it's just plain beautiful!
I came to realize that when I first started my journey with photography in a serious sense that I looked at the world around me but I wasn't really "seeing" it! And although I look forward now to each season as it comes I think this time of year will always be a favorite.

Photography at -25 degrees C gets sticky. Harder still surrounded by an ice fog.
