The Pink Palace

The Pink Palace

The Pink Palace is a derelict building in my home town which will probably be knocked down any day now. We decided to go in and explore it's dark interior, mainly to check out the graffiti, but also for the excitement of getting in behind it's boarded doors and windows.

I find the artwork inside abandoned buildings amazing, its like a gallery but once the show is over they tear down the building rather than taking the works off the walls. I think in my photography I often look for subject matter that needs to be captured before it's gone forever, and if the building does get pulled down soon I'll be happy to have recorded the last stage in it's life.

Before we headed to the location of the Pink Palace, we checked another derelict building, but on arriving we had found it's location fenced off and nothing but a clear lot where it once stood. The building was history and I was cut that I didn't have a chance to get it before it went.

The only part of being inside this place which made me uncomfortable was the second floor. I felt like I was going to be making an express trip through the floor, but luckily it didn't happen, despite the creaking floorboards feeling very suspect.
