Last Night in Waco

I had been in Waco for a week and a half for my job. I had read of Waco's suspension bridge and how it had been a major route for travellers on the Chisholm Trail. The only way across before 1869 was via ferry. The bridge was open for tolls on January 1, 1870, and it opened the west like never before.
Knowing this, I wanted to see it for myself. It was on my last night in Waco, and even though I had been working in the late evenings, I stayed up to pack and I ultimately decided to stay awake to see the bridge at night. I drove to downtown Waco, and parked my car accross the street. I felt a bit uncomfortable walking around at 4 AM, but I was set. The bridge was truly a sight to behold. It was beautifully illuminated with thousands of lights. It was the best part of my visit to Waco. It serves today only as a pedestrian brdge, but the beauty of it has not deminished. It is truly a piece of American history, and serves Waco well.
