My European Adventure

At the end of last summer I received a letter from People to People Student Ambassadors, a program created to allow students to explore other parts of the world in order to create a peace & understanding, asking me to join them in Europe the following summer. I was more than interested in their invitation, so I went to the required orientation. After seeing all the amazing things I would be doing if I went, I attended an interview, so they could make sure I was the kind of person they wanted representing our country, I was accepted into the program & now am a Student Ambassador. I left June 17 for my adventure that would last 19 days. I arrived in France early on the 17th & headed straight to the Castle of Versailles, where I took my first picture, in the gardens. To be honest France was not the highlight of my trip, but I did enjoy the Eiffel Tower, I climbed all the way to the top. The view from every angle of the tower was indescribable. I was in France for 8 days, not even half my time was spent there. We made one last stop on our way to England, at Mont Saint Michel, where I took photographs of not only the view, but the interesting people I saw. I saw this older man just standing alone with his cane, who would have thought some stranger would be the focus of one of my favorite pictures. If you have never been to England, I suggest you go there, everything there is beautiful, peaceful, colorful, & photogenic. It is really true what they say, the grass is greener on the other side. Everything over there seemed so much more vibrant & colorful. It seems weird, but I really do think that you can see everything you need to know in a picture. The trip was fun, but there were tears. We visited the Normandy beaches & the memorial, this took us all on emotional roller coasters. Who would have thought that you could become so sad from the deaths of people that you never even knew? I guess seeing tombstones marked "here rests in honored glory a comrade in arms, known but to God" makes you evaluate yourself. I can look at any of my pictures & tell you what makes it special, but none of them have more meaning then the ones I took at the cemetery & memorial. Really anybody can take a picture, but if it has no meaning or sense of importance all it is, is well a picture. The rest of my stay was incredible & even though I was happy to finally be getting home, I miss Europe more than anything.
