Let's Play With Our Food

I get the chance to exhibit my works locally and my most popular shots are my food shots where I incorporate a familiar food item and concept. In my 'Lifesaver' series I used a very common food item and gave it life by the use of lighting and titles. In my 'Fun With Food' series, I created my interpretation of common themes with photos of food. Stewed tomatoes are common. Food scares are a great ploy as well. And please don't overlook songs. It's easy to do and all one must do is think food when listening to the radio, watching television, or reading a book.
Back in the 70's I did a lot of commercial photography where a client hired me to sell a food product. Think Dr. Pepper...dress up a bell pepper with a stethoscope and white lab coat. Think Butter Pecan Ice Cream and sculpt a pecan out of butter. My Limon is famous. Lemon-Lime was too easy. Nothing is off limits when it comes to playing with food. Though I titled my fava bean/baby shot, "Beanie Baby," the inspiration for this came from, "The Silence of the Lambs." Its alternate title was, "Where's the Chianti," and so many people see that.
Pull that cabbage out of the veggie drawer and think back to the Cabbage Patch Kids. Grab that carrot and give him a position amongst the plums (oh, he could be some sort of plum crazy). There are so many possibilities and people LOVE to hang these in their kitchens. They are a big hit at exhibitions.
