An Eye on the Watersprings

Life on Rails

This girl friend of mine that`s doing some work with photography recently had warned me about this very interesting photographic expedition, organized by a local NGO, looking out to spread the idea of preservating São Paulo water sources and thus the quality of the water we drink. The idea was kinda simple, and very interesting: they joined a bunch of famous photographers, and each one of them created a routine related to the subject, to each about 20 people would join them, with any kind of photographic machine. By the end of the program, each of us will have from one to three photos published on a common book. It is the "De Olho nos Mananciais" (An Eye on the Watersprings) photographic expedition.

Well, I said, this would be a nice thing to do. So I joined the well-respected Klaus Mitteldorf's group, and we went, on sunday the 1st of June, through the course of the Pinheiros river, along of wich the public transport train tracks follow, and large and very important parts of the city have developed.

Came the day, but it came with bad weather. it was cold and too damn cloudy. Well, heads up. In a group of about 20, there we where, all kinds of cameras, ideas and perspectives ready to shoot our way through the city-dividing river's margin. Since we where escourted by some security, and we had some guidelines to follow, there where a few things we couldn't (unfortunally) do. So we couldn't step down on tracks and such... oh, but it would've been so fun!

Well, we departed morning yet, and enjoyed most of what the poor weather allowed us, as well as nice company and the fun of a group picture expedidtion! Some shots turned out quite nice; I'm really glad I took with me my Hanimex wide angle lenses. I shot both film and digital, and used the oportunity to experiment a little with overexposure on broad daylight. But most interesting than anything, I got a one-time oportunity to shoot inside the train stations, where taking pictures is usually prohibited.

Here I have selected a few of the interesting pictures I've taken there. Now it is time to select 3 pictures , and send them to the expedition's organizers. At the end, it was but a nice, cold evening out shooting pictures with a few cool people... with some nice results!
