What city do you live in? What neighborhood?
I live in Elberton, a small town in the Northeast Georgia area.
Under 30,000 people live here. I live 15 miles out of town (in the middle of nowhere) in a little neighborhood they call "Rock Branch".
What are some adjectives that describe your neighborhood?
My neighborhood is small, wooded, quiet, and boring.
How long have you lived there, and what brought you there?
I've been living here for about 11 years. I was originally born in Florida, but we moved to South Carolina when I was about 4.
Not far from where we lived, there was this small town called Elberton, and my parents happened to find a old farm house, like they wanted. It was built in 1910 and they have enjoyed remodeling it, matter of fact, it's still being remodeled.
What is your favorite thing about this place? Your least favorite?
My favorite thing about where we live is that all of the neighbors and nice, and friendly. They're also a bit southern..
I like how I can walk out into my backyard and always find something new to photograph. It's far out of town, so the only thing that i really photograph around home, is wildlife photos, sunrises / sunsets, landscapes, and normal everyday objects.
My least favorite part about where I live, is how far it is away from everything. I like photographing people, things in the city, and where the life is. Taking the same type of pictures everyday isn't always that fun..
Do you feel that you belong there?
I kind of feel out of place, because I don't have a southern accent, but I don't have a northern accent, either. My neighbors and my parents have southern accents too, but not terrible ones.
What is the most common misconception about where you live?
People from the bigger cities think that everyone who lives down in the south hunts, fishes, and are rednecks. Whoa, what a misconception..Some people just like the peace, and quiet.
What is a special fact about your city that you have to live there to know?
Well, Elberton is supposedly the "Granite Capitol of the World". There's tons of Granite Sheds and stuff in town.
What aspect of your city do you secretly love?
I kind of like the peacefulness in the country sometimes. It's not always fun, but some days I like to come home and just sit outside without listening to the Garbage truck go up and down the street.
Anything else you'd like to add?
Well, there's not much else to say about my town. It's small, and there's not many attractions. Some people go to look at the quarries where they get the Granite, and most others go towards Athens or Anderson (South Carolina) to go to the mall, or see a movie.
I really wonder why my parents settled here in such a small town, weird.
