On assignment

In the 1960s and 1970s, in particular, I used to take my camera along on most of my journalistic assignments. Though my job was to report and/or write stories, I often took photographs after my main job was done. That was the fun part. Once in awhile, I'd get a photograph published along with my story. That was a special kick, because it was not something I was expected to be able to do. I guess it's like a singer who gets to act or an actor who gets to sing.
