Portraits 101

It was very spontaneous actually-- I had my Canon 30D in my hand, and everyone was running crazy between the newspaper and yearbook labs. Being that I was in my journalism independent study period, I took it upon myself to pull as many individuals as i could find into the broadcast room, force them out of their comfort zone and in front of the camera, just for a quick shot.
It surprised me, as one by one each person came in, how quickly their personality was captured in my fingers. Those who were shy, posed shy--a small smile, a glance past my shoulder. Those who led the more outgoing life let it show, by striking aggressive and hilarious poses and faces. It went to show me that you can't really force the truth out of anyone in front of the camera. The comfort is there for the person, or it isn't. It might not be as simple as that, but for a boring day in journalism independent study, that was good enough for my lesson of the day.
