03/17/08 Presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama (D IL) was warmly received by the Irish Women Society at the Lackawanna Station Hotel in Scranton, PA on Saint Patrick's Day. This despite being in Hillary territory (her father was born here).
He spoke for only ten minutes but it seemed to take twice as long for him to exit the ballroom as he hugged and shook hands and signed autographs on his way out the door.
"Turns out I have Irish heritage . . . It never hurts to be a little Irish when you are running for President of the United States."
