What city do you live in? What neighborhood?
I currently live in North Ridgeville, Ohio a small suburb west of Cleveland.
What are some adjectives that describe your neighborhood?
Blue-collar, Ethnic, Urban, Middle-class, Musical, Eclectic
How long have you lived there, and what brought you there?
I have lived my entire life (43 years) in and around Greater Cleveland. My mother was born in Pennsylvania and moved to Cleveland to find work, she met my father who was born in the Cleveland area and I have lived here ever since.
What is your favorite thing about this place? Your least favorite?
I love the diversity in Cleveland. From a photographers point of view I can find beautiful sunsets on Lake Erie and dramatics skylines from Downtown, but I also find sad stories in the homeless people that populate public sqaure in the center of the city. The sports teams in Cleveland are fierce in there support of the Browns, Indians and Cavs no matter how bad they perform and dont forget the rich background in the roots of Rock & Roll that can be seen in the Hall of Fame & Museum. This city never fails to deliver great images and stories.
On the negative side, the city has two seasons, Winter and Construction, Ive never seen more orange barrels any where else in the world and the moment the frost thaws they pop up everywhere.
Do you feel that you belong there?
I definetly belong to this town and no matter where I go, will always have deep roots here, growing up in a place with such a diversity of people, cultures and visual stimulation - my heart belongs to the town.
What is the most common misconception about where you live?
Many people believe that the city is very dirty, in fact the Cuyahoga river that runs through downtown was once so bad that it caught on fire and will be forever will be remembered for this. Times have changed and the river is now clean and beautiful.
What is a special fact about your city that you have to live there to know?
A suburb of Cleveland, 'Parma' has the best pierogis in the world.
What aspect of your city do you secretly love?
I love the people, diverse, passionate, strong willed and sometimes a pain in the ass, but they are what make this town special and esciting.
Anything else you'd like to add?
Nothing else to add!
