We Walk
By Claudia Martin

I walk fast to work. I walk slowly to relax after. I like to walk around my neighborhood and my kitchen. I walk to get places and I walk to get away from them.
Scientifically, walking is terribly good for you. It increases energy, controls appetite, burns body fat, improves heart and lung health, and speeds up metabolism.
Spiritually, from mystics to analysts, walking has been paired with meditation and transpersonal psychotherapy. People probably get paid loads of money from celebrities to teach proper walking-with-grace techniques. I think it is born of an inner confidence, untaught.
I like this style of street photography, on the go and alive. It is always a joy and a surprise when a gem appears. Many of my favorite shots have been of people walking, because they incorporate movement, vibrancy, and a sense of urgency or reflection. People, whether they look lost, deeply contemplative, or late for an important date, are strange and wonderful to observe and record in their most candid moments.
