"Shots Project"

Elizabeth "Shots Project"

I have always been intrigued by human expression. Whether it be a soft gesture or a loud one. To capture these moments you typically need to shoot from the hip and rarely can you catch them in the studio. I wanted to create an controlled environment that would allow me to capture pure reaction with no inhibitions.

The concept of shots was to create true human reactions for the camera. The catalyst for these reactions were 7 categories of alcoholic beverages all to be taken in shot form. By doing this no one focused on the camera and the achieved responses were fantastic. I started this project in 2005 and to date have photographed 51 people and some multiple times. I have been allowed to show change in appearance through passing of time, change in expression because no one shot is repeated in another photographic session. Another level to this project is everyone in the photographs is connected to my life in one form or another, none are strangers.

I hope to continue this project for many years to come. So far it has been a blast and I have never done a project where so many people have been willing to participate.
