Memories, somewhat forbidden

In the 1970's a very close friend of mine lived in a small mud brick cottage, in an outer suburb of Melbourne. Her then boyfriend had built it. We have many memories of languid days and nights spent there, including many fun days with my friend's new baby daughter and the pet rabbit.
As we recently learnt that the cottage had been incorporated into a restaurant and garden centre we all went to see for it ourselves and to have lunch there.
While we ate, we watched in shock as a gardener pruned an old olive tree with a chainsaw and we told stories about our teenage adventures many years ago.
Sadly the garden centre wasn't officially open. The waitress at the restaurant saw my camera and told us that we couldn't take photographs, even though we explained that my friend had such a close connection with the property.
I was not to be defeated, so I surreptitiously took some images with my camera held by my side as we walked around the quite beautiful garden, including the outbuildings. There was a small new lake, and some wonderful plants in gorgeous autumn colours.
It is a beautiful place, but somewhat forbidden.

Interesting...and sad...it reminded me of the expression, "You can't go home again." Still, just spending again in a place that held such wonderful memories makes it even more special.
