Cat Photography

I am a new photographer. After years of struggle with a string of point and shoots, I realized they just couldn't do what I wanted them to do. I didn't know why, or even what I really wanted them to do. In December of this year, I got a Nikon D40 for my birthday, and enrolled in a beginning photography course. I am, by now, quite addicted.
I love animals, especially cats. I have six cats, a dog, a chinchilla, three fish, three children and a husband. My house has a bit of the feel of a lunatic asylum. You'd think my kids would count themselves incredibly lucky, but every day I find myself having a conversation about why we can't get a snake, a frog, another kitten. . .
I do most of my practicing on my children and my cats. The cats stay still for longer (especially while basking in perfect, beautiful window light). They are never self-conscious in front of the camera, and do not require bribes. So really, I do a lot of practicing on my cats.
When I was little, I could not understand why my mother did not want more than just two cats. Now I understand. Thank goodness my husband vacuums.
