Party Portraits
By Tim Smith-Laing
13 May 2008
Everybody knows the drill: party photo equals badly over-flashed and red-eye plagued. Unless of course it's a Vogue party, or something up at the Playboy Mansion, where the pros really know how to bring out the natural skin tones.
The problem is, if you're not a genius with flash, there doesn't seem to be an easy way round the problem. Parties aren't famous for being well lit (not good parties anyways), meaning that getting natural portraits of my friends without them feeling under the spotlight was going to be pretty difficult. So when I wanted to take some shots without spoiling the atmosphere, or drawing too much attention, I tracked down some super fast film, and took my camera for a spin.
