The Hawk and the Meadowlark

Out of a blue sky a Sharp-Shinned Hawk strikes with swiftness and stealth, its' prey a beautiful Eastern Meadowlark. Birders tell me they are declining in numbers.
The Meadowlark stands about 8" tall and is very sturdy in build. It is built much like a Robin but with more muscle.
The Sharp-Shinned Hawk is only a little larger and is considered to be the smallest and most agile hawk in all of North America.
I was unable to approach closely enough to show you the true fury of the struggle put up by the songbird, nor the cool, steely relentlessness of the predator.
