Benaras- The city of lord Shiva

Also known as Varanasi or Kashi(The Luminous) is the chosen abode of Lord Shiva, the tallest of all Hindu Gods.It is believed that who so ever dies in Kashi is relieved of cycle of rebirth(Moksha). Benaras is on the western banks of river Ganges, so sunrise is just devine & out of this world. The beautiful site of sunrise with a rising crescendo of holy chants from the thousands of temples on the river bank(popularly called as "ghaats') & thousands taking holy dip in the river is mind blowing. It is devine, it is out of this world. River is flocked by western, Japanese & Korean tourists enjoying boat rides.

Benaras has the famous Shiva temple"Vishwanath temple". Sarnath the place where Buddha got enlightenment is also in Varanasi. Worth a visit.
