How To

Bored off my rocker!

Sunday afternoon, i got nothing to do, i'm bored out of my mind and i just charged my flash batteries......I'm going outside. Ever since i saw someone use off camera flash in a canon product pamphlet i've been in love with the idea. Plus shortly after my experiments in off camera flash i found a website (www.strobist.com) that has a massive amount of Tutorials and lighting wisdom all provided by an incredible photographer, David Hobby, who is getting to be pretty popular these days with all the people finding his site and going to his Flickr Group, where u must post how u lit the picture, very cool and some great photos! Anyways, i'm walking around and find a huge puddle and alot of rocks. I don't know about u but i love the way water in motion looks, and i've done alot of those Drip shots already so i thought i would try and get creative with large splashes. I get a handful of the largest rocks i can find, set a flash on my camera bag (set to slave, triggered by my on camera flash) off to the left of the frame and toss some rocks. It was getting so dark that if i wanted any ambient at all in there i had to go to f/5.6 ISO 1600 and SP15. I used a telephoto for these shots cause it's all i brought out with me but it keeps u from getting into the spray of water, plus if u see a neat little critter u can steal his soul. After the first few shots i was really liking was i was getting but it kept getting colder and i was telling myself, ok, 2 more rocks and thats it, then 2 more became 3 more and that became 4 more and now by this time my hands were freakin freazing. These photos are'nt neccesarily the best example of off camera flash but it shows u that u can get some cool results especially with camera setting most stear clear from. I hope u like these pics and maybe it will inspire u to do something along the same lines but way better and more creative, i know someone will surprise me, JPG members always do! Have FUN and keep taking pictures even if it's something simple, rediculous or just something to keep u busy, you never know what u might discover.
