Ignorance is bliss

I have been into photography for about 4 years now. I have learned to love it! After comments from friends, family, strangers, and other photographers I thought I knew enough of what was going on in the photography world, and then I read a book! Not just any book but a field guide to my specific camera's make and model. I have had my d-slr for about 7 months now and have put it through its paces. I have been reading magazines and looking at a lot of different shots. I have read some of the top tips, secret tricks and hints from several magazines and I even post some of my own. However, after reading the first page in the book I new I was in trouble. I might not know the terminology but I can usually get the shot. Now my brain is swimming in my first page of knowledge and terminology. I took about an hour and read here and there throughout the book and the book seemed to get bigger and bigger! I am a self taught photographer that looks at things from a perspective of color, direction, and simplicity. I like the unusual, the beauty around us. Those blessings in disguise. I am honestly overwhelmed at my lack of knowledge! There is so much I don't know even though I have had 4 cameras and a magazine subscription for over a year and read countless articles online hoping for a trick or cheat that will land better shots. Basic editing skills, and a camera that has more ability than I can use, shooting daily, and viewing the world through a lens...I realized I am barely ankle deep in the photography pool. With how quickly techknowledgy changes how many different cameras there are. There seems no way to win. Now instead of gently recommending ideas to another photographer (turn off the flash. use a tripod, increase the iso for a night shot). I might just keep my mouth shut and let them learn the hard way. The way I did. One exciting moment at a time. Sometimes the hard way is the rite way.
