Beauty in their Sorrow

Infant No. 1

Every time my wife and I are out on a trip, we look for the historical cemetaries in the area. I'm not superstitious and it's not some sort of macabre fascination. I appreciate the serenity and history of these special places. They are tributes paid by people long ago to ones they loved. They stand immortal where we cannot. To me, it is a link to those that came before me; a piece of history.

Most are taken in the old German town of Fredericksburg. Settled in the mid 1800's, many of these families still live in the area. The cemetary has a portion dedicated to the many children killed by disease in the late 1800's. It makes you appreciate modern medicine when you consider that most families lost about half of their kids to disease.

I hope you enjoy these treasures of history as I do.
