Strangers/Friends
By Graham Case
9 March 2008
In the fall of 2007, I walked around Vancouver for nine weeks and forced myself to do something very difficult for myself. Everyday I would stop one person that I thought looked interesting and I asked to take their photo, I asked for their name and I asked them to describe themselves.
For me their names were not as important to me as the words they chose to describe themselves. Some responses seemed to naturally fit with their photos. Other reponses, however, were much farther from reality, at least as far as I was concerned.
I don't know if I'm any more confident about approaching strangers now then I was before I started the project, but I am happy with the result, and glad I finished it without missing a single day in nine weeks.
