Swimming Pools

Most of what I remember from my childhood is brought back by the smell of chlorine. I spent a lot of time swimming. There was an outdoor 50m pool that I swam the width of for the first time. It was nearly dusk, or so it seemed, and mum asked me one more time if I could make it across. I remember feeling proud and that it was a huge achievement. Which it was at the time.
Now when I swim in the summer I always try to make it to an outdoor pool. They're not so easy to find these days though. Most councils are covering them over and modernising them to make them useful all season. But some nice ones still exist. I make an effort to find the local outdoor pool when I travel too, just to see if it's worth a swim or a photograph.
