Sphinx At The Luxor Hotel, Las Vegas Nevada

Ever since I saw the 1963 Movie Classic Cleopatra starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Rex Harrison, Roddy McDowall and Martin Landaua (to name a few), I developed an interest in the study of Ancient Egypt and its antiquities.

I have no desire, however, in becoming an Egyptologist. But, I am absolutely fascinated with photographying anything Egyptign. Hopefully I'll get to Egypt one day. So you could imagine what it was like for me staying in the Luxor hotel in las Vegas, Nevada.

The Luxor has an Ancient Egyptian motif and contains a total of 4,408 rooms lining the interior walls of a hollow pyramid and contained within twin ziggurat towers that were built as later additions. The hotel is named after the city of Luxor (ancient Thebes) in Egypt, the site of the Valley of the Kings, Karnak and Luxor Temples, and scores of other pharaonic monuments — but no pyramids.

It was truly fascinating for me. What I really enjoy shooting, however, are Head Shots of the Egyptian Sphinx. According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, the Sphinxes of Egypt are mythical creatures, seen as guardians in Egyptian sculpture. Sphinxes are depicted in one of these three forms: Androsphinx - body of lion with head of person - Criosphinx - body of lion with head of ram - or Hierocosphinx - body of lion with head of falcon or hawk.

Just thought I'd share these pics with my friends in the JPG community as a 'Personal Posting."
