Photo Essay

Trials and Tribulations of Lunar Eclipse Photography with a Point & Shoot

Almost complete

Tonight I was so excited. I've taken pictures of the moon when it is full while it was low in the sky, but tonight will be a challenge. A Lunar Eclipse doesn't happen everyday, especially early enough that I could try on a work night. My Kodak Z740 has a 10x Optical Zoom, but will it be enough?

Sadly, it wasn't. I did get a couple of good shots, but I got more blurry ones and at times none. Once the moon was in total eclipse the camera could no longer catch the moon. It was still spectacular to see, but I don't have a record of it totally eclipsed. Manual or auto, it was just too far away.

I will keep trying new things and pushing my Kodak Z740 to it's limits. It quite amazes me sometimes with what it can do and I've had people ask what kind of camera I have and are surprised when I tell them it's a point and shoot.

I have a kodak point and shoot myself and sometimes, the photos that come out are just too amazing for people to believe that its from a P&S camera.
Like you said, the trick is to not stop trying and experimenting!!!
    Good shots...
