Images of Smoke 2000 - 2006
By Kerry Loewen

The Untitled Smoke series is an investigation into the beauty of chaos theory as described by mathematics and physics: "a nonlinear dynamical system that has a sensitive dependence on its initial conditions" (i.e.: the butterfly effect). Besides smoke, other examples of such systems include atmospheric conditions, turbulent fluids, population growth and the war in Iraq.
These images include some of my earliest smoke images from 2000, and some of my most recent from the fall of 2006.
