Laguna Beach is the home of more than fancy cars and big houses. Since the 1920's Laguna Beach has been the home of skim boarding. Lifeguards use to skim on pieces of wood. Although they still skim on wood the sport of skim boarding has developed enormously. Skim boarding today is known as one of the most advanced sports while also being one of the smallest.
In about the 1960's Laguna Beach became the home of the newfound sport. They started carving the wood into curved shapes instead of rectangles. The boards where referred to as "double enders"
Skim boarding today has been a major part of Laguna Beach. Most locals in Laguna Beach attempt skim boarding. Most people don't stick with it but the ones who do are very dedicated to the sport. Like these skim boarders they are always entertainment for the beach goers. The ones who are talented at the sport can do many various tricks on the waves Laguna has to offer.
I have tried skim boarding and it is not as easy as it looks. Skim boarding like surfing involves a lot of balance and agility. Like most sports skim boarding is very competitive. Don't ever walk in front of one while trying to skim. Like designated surfing areas they also have specific areas for skim boarders.
These stylish skim boarders where skimming right off Laguna Beach taking turns getting some pretty big waves. For anyone is who trying to perfect "skimming" all the local surf shops have many different boards in all shapes and sizes to offer. The most popular board out there for a reasonable price is the original Victoria. It's a board with a teardrop shape perfect for shredding the waves. They also make more advanced boards made out of fiberglass for a nice smooth glide.
