Photo Essay

Where I'm At: My Nashville

The General

I have lived in and around Nashville most of my adult life, and I love it here. It's a tourist town, "Music City USA", "The Country Music Capital", not to mention it's the state capital. It's a fairly large city, but it feels like a small town. There's always something to do here. Live music of all genre's, art museums, fabulous restaurants, pro football and hockey, about the only thing that it doesn't have is an ocean.

A couple of years ago a friend of mine asked me to do some "artistic pictures of some local spots in town" for his newly renovated home. I decided to make it a Polaroid SX70 project depicting some of the tourist attractions, and some local hang outs. I thought that I would probably shoot eight to ten photos that he could choose from. I printed them on watercolor paper and hand colored them with pastels. My friend bought six of them, and I had a show at a local coffee shop that did very well. I was thrilled!

My project grew into a two year journey down memory lane. I think that I have about thirty prints now, and I still have one more precious package of Time Zero film left. With Polaroid recently anouncing that they are going to stop production of all films, this project has become more dear to me.

I hope that you enjoy the tour.

I've always had a soft spot for image transfers. You do them incredibly well!
