The girl behind the Lens

Maldroid In Light

New to the world of Live Music Performance photography, I'm getting my lens dirty at the best place to grow as an artist, whether you're on stage or behind the viewfinder.

This is my story as the official photographer for Betty's Rock Bar. In my newest endeavor I've had the pleasure to shoot celebrities, rock legends, and local up and coming musicians. All of this, in just the few short months of the club's grand opening.

The job has its perks. Come on, I'm a young edgy girl, and an artist who loves music. How could I not feel right at home doing this. The biggest reward has been the lessons it has allowed me to learn as a photographer. Finding the limits of my equipment. Realizing the ultra fast timing necessary to shoot in this atmosphere. Best of all, the mistakes I've made have shown me to be far more aware of my art.

We are special, unique. We are those few, allowed to see and show so many moments that would otherwise be lost or never known by so many.

In finding my limits, I've had to pick up three new lenses. You start to realize in order to create and capture those split-second shots you'll need bigger, better equipment. Our craft is not an inexpensive one, you'll need to invest in what you need to do the job. Otherwise those moments, can pass you in an instant.

Shooting in low light has also been a challenge that I'm happy to have taken on. All I can say is practice, practice, practice.

I'm growing with each show and would encourage anyone to go to your hometown's live venue and shoot your heart out. You'll be amazed at what you'll come across. Not to mention you'll find a ton of musicians, artisans, and performers, that need our help to capture their essence.

These are just a few of the precious moments from the early days of the club. Moments I had the pleasure to be able to spot behind the lens. Moments I want to remember and now share with all of you.
