The Project

Let Me Do It!!

I work with young children, and have a two year old daughter. A common occurance in my life is hearing the phrase, "I wanna do it myself, mama!". So, after times and times of exasperated sighs and struggles with a two year old, one day I thought to myself, "why the hell can't I let her do it??!" and I created an art project (as well as a happy toddler).

For a project at the local daycare center where I work, I developed this ingenious plan! It's actually quite simple. Step 1: purchase several disposable cameras. Step 2: distribute them to youth. Step 3: watch. Step 4: collect, develop & compile.

Kids see things at a different level - literally and figuratively! Letting each child choose what he wanted to photograph was art in itself, not to mention, some of the photos actually came out very well, and the kids felt a sense of pride, just like we do when we create something beautiful through art.

And, for the first time you get to say, "YES! You can do it yourself!!" If that isn't fulfilling, then I don't know what is.
