Pavement or No Pavement, Thou Shalt Skateboard

I was sitting at my computer in my dorm room drooling over some of the recent photos submitted to the Split-second theme when I heard a loud fence rattle. Getting up and looking out my window, I saw two guys slip'n and slide'n on their boards across the fenced in basketball court ten stories below me. Grabbing my trusty point and shoot Canon Power Shot and my jacket I headed down to see if they would let me shoot a few. I approached the gated court, which is normally filled with myself and others playing soccer, and introduced myself. At 25 dagrees Fahrenheit I was immediately impressed that they were on the icy court in the first place. I asked them why they weren't snowboarding and they said "really, we just wanted to skateboard." After a while they became more and more comfortable in front of the lens and started doing a few daring tricks. Between manuals, ollies, kick-flips, nose-grinds, hand-plants, and a few board slides, I was pretty impressed at their ability to move on the slick pavement. I captured a few action shots between tricks and sporadic movement and then I climbed to the top of the fifteen foot fence to get the key shot of them laying on their backs shivering in the cold. At about 2 a.m., I thanked both of them and headed back up to my room to warm my hands and feet after my first amateur photo shoot. For me, I believe it was a genuine success.
