One camera, one light, and one actor

It is amazing what one camera, one actor, a stage, and a desk lamp can create. Most people are too poor to afford the fancy lighting set-ups, but it doesn't matter. Beautiful and emotional photos don't require spendy equipment.
All of the photos in this set were shot on a bare stage in a college theatre. All of the lights in the theatre were extinquished and I set up a common desk lamp on an extension cord and moved it around the stage to create drama in the shadows. The lamp had a bendable stem so the light could be focused on the subject. Pulling the light farther away from the scene helped to create the large shadows. By pulling the light in close, I was able to highlight the facial features. This is a very simple way to create dramatic lighting on a budget!
All shots were taken with a Ricoh 35mm SLR. A soft focus filter was used for the large shadow photos.
The model was fellow actor, SJ Flavin.

The beast of burden lay forgotten, and like it's coat lost amidst the gray fog.
