The Mission in San Francisco in the Republic of California
What are some adjectives that describe your neighborhood?
Working Class Hipster Heaven Fixie-Bike Riding Art Loving Latin Flare Neighborhood!
How long have you lived there, and what brought you there?
My Grandmother move into the neighborhood in 1962 and soon so did I!
What is your favorite thing about this place? Your least favorite?
Almost all that is cool about San Francisco is here, or within walking, riding distance from my house.
Least Favorite; parking spaces!
Do you feel that you belong there?
For now yes, but the cost of living will rise as it did in other parts of the city so will it in the Mission and natives will move away! It's the price of success!
What is the most common misconception about where you live?
It's a gang-infested area plagued by violence! In truth even during the height of gang wars in the mid 90's families flourished, I know because my family were one of them. Today it's alive, though some criminal element prevail but that goes with the allure of the neighborhood!
What is a special fact about your city that you have to live there to know?
It's cheaper to buy groceries from mom and pop ethnic store, it being latin, chinese etc.. Most of the cheapest and savory eats in San Francisco is in the Mission area.
What aspect of your city do you secretly love?
It's not too big (Chaotic NY), not too small (Sleepy Seattle)! Just the right flare and size!
