What city do you live in? What neighborhood?
I live in Herrin, Il. Right in the center of all southern illinois. I have lived in Eldorado, Il most of my life. But am liking being closer to the "city" life. I have lived in the country and I do like it but comes hard to get these days.
What are some adjectives that describe your neighborhood?
This is mostly a blue-collar neighborhood as in most areas in si. It does get a bit noisy we live on the corner of a busy street and down the road from the city workers. But its a gorgeous area,doing photography i have half block to a great train track, have a big brick building across the street, so many great photography sources.
How long have you lived there, and what brought you there?
I have lived here for about 4 months, my boyfriend and I bought it in april.
What is your favorite thing about this place? Your least favorite?
My favorite thing about my home, is its cozy. My favorite thing about southern Il is that its gorgeous! So many natural things to do besides the hustle and bustle of city life. Something I wish more people had time to do and would do with thier kids. Gets them away from video games! Fall is a great time of year for this area! So many great colors!
My least favorite thing is that Im not totally in the country, and there are limited things to do exp during the winter. Thats when I miss the city life.
Do you feel that you belong there?
I feel I belong here in a sense but I also feel I belong in the city. Wierd I know, must be the photographer in me. I long for the lazy days of hiking, site seeing, the local mall, family restarunts, the stop and smell the roses of everyday life. But I also long for the hotdog stand at the corner, the sky high buildings, the amazing lights, the creative window displays, its wonderful to sit back and watch.
What is the most common misconception about where you live?
The most misconception about southern illinois is there is nothing here. There is plenty here if you just know and want to look. If more people would take the time to stop and breath for awhile you would see it all unfold before your eyes.
What is a special fact about your city that you have to live there to know?
Herrin, is home of the Italians (so guess i do fit in). Herrin is also in williamson co. which is known as bloody willimason due to a massacre in the past. It is now pretty laid back, of course its not invisible to its share of crime.
What aspect of your city do you secretly love?
I love the fact that it still has some city to the area but still has its country roots.
