Everybodys gone

Everybody came. But as soon as I got up. It was already too late. They were gone. Thinking about it now, I had my chance. More than once actually. When in 1990, staring at another magazine, lusting at another picture, I could have decided against abandoning my profession as a writer and pursuing photography instead. I did not. I was dumb. Joy walked in then and walked toward the box I was in, she scanned the room to make sure no one was there....you know how funeral parlors are. Partially drawn heavy curtains. You look to the floor hoping to see a pair of black dress shoes sticking from underneath the curtain. If you are a guy, you desire a pair of golden open toe sandals (why would a woman were open toe shoes to a funeral?)
Anyway Joy was dressed well and she was nervous, I could tell. The top of her lip was moist.
Leanig over me, I could smell her spearmint gum. And the faint aroma of gin beneath that.
"Why", she says. More to herself than me, my dead body at least. She did not know I had moved on. I was always moving....just like back then... back then....perhaps thats where I should began.....you'll better understand.....I'll go back. Back to "back then".
Lets see where are we. Ah yes small town. I thought everybody was slow then. Except me and a few other. My cousin Ben. He was definately ahead of the curve. By the time we finished with our hometown, he had more babies than I had balls. ( wonder if I get to us my balls here...sorry I got sidetracked. But its Joy and that darn spearmint gum. Pretty ass lips. Gonna miss wanting her.
Anyway anyway... most locals were too busy trying on somebody else's business or too busy worshiping one God or another. Me I was like a brand new engine. Just turn me on and I was ready to tear it up. It did not matter the consequences....oh, don't get me wrong I had scruples. But I also had the gift. The gift of insight. I could sense things better than most. Except my aunt. She was on to me from the start. As soon as she adopted me, she starting saying
We got the same blood, dont you go thinking you can out think me". Yep, thats what she would say. Cant show you her face. But here is a shot of her hands.
