Born of Frustration

The intention behind the look and feel was that of my own frustration with the state of the world. My general feeling of asking myself, "Can things get worse?" and observing how they seem to. These images are essentially all self portraits of myself. Some being more anger-ridden, some more doubtful while others offer some glimmer of hope. The intensity of the sun and heat on the subjects, depending on the time of year, helps fuel these feelings that lends itself to this concept. The eyes are intentionally darkened and elusive so as not to make it completely about them, and allow the viewer a non-specific relationship with the image.
After being interested in infrared photography for some time, but having done very little with the process, I began this series with experimentation and trial & error. I was curious to see how people and portraiture-style photography, while utilizing the hard afternoon sun light, would translate into digital infrared images. This technique led to the connection between the technical process with the look and feeling.
I have been working on this series for a couple of years and it is on-going. Due to the nature of IR, and this particular look, I have only a small time during the day to capture the intensity that is needed from the sun. There is some post processing involved. Mostly just exposure corrections/adjustments and tinting.
