Landmines

Girl Victim of Landmine

Colombia is one of the countries who has planted more landmines, due to the nature of the conflict, where three armed actors fight, Guerrilla forces, Paramilitary forces and government forces; the number of landmines planted is incredible, and are spread all around he country.

The victims of landmines, in the majority are civilians, because landmines are planted without regards near towns, rural school or any other heavily populated areas.

This is just one of the thousands of cases, that occur in Colombia. This little Girls was with her cousins near their town taking a walk, when the girl saw a little can she thought was a tuna can, and kicked it, it really was a mine, the blast cause her the lost of her leg, burns in several parts of her body, her cousin suffered burns as well. His uncle that was nearby, regardless of the danger of stepping on what was a mine field, went in and carried the three girls out of the area.

Cool story. It reminded me of late Princess Diana who visited some landmine sites years ago.
