Strand photo Contest

I love Strand books! it's one of my favorite places in NYC, not only because it's the best and cheapest place to buy books, but also, because with it's central location, the store just feel like a crazy crossroad for all book lovers wherever they are. It feel like the center of the world, and I think that if there is a center to the world, what should be in that spot is a big, huge book store.

A couple of weeks ago, I shot a short clip of people out side of the store, looking at the books, when a friend of my saw it, she pointed my attention to "Eye on the Strand", a photography competition of the shop or anything strand related really.

I decided to go back there and give it a shot.

I spend about an hour and a half there, wondering around and looking for things to shoot. I have to say, though I'm in love with the Strand, it's really not the most attractive (or photogenic) of shops, the light is absolutely appealing, it just flats everything, and though books are a pretty pleasing to the eye, I don't find the warehouse feel of the 4 stories building attractive in any way.

It's the first time I'm participating in anything like that - a topic or place photography assignment, and so, it was very interesting to me to walk around and try to find something to shoot (usually I just wonder around with a camera until something interesting happens).

Now I'm trying to pick which is my favorite photo to submit, I'm down to those 5, the competition rules allow up to 3 photos, and I intend to finally submit this toward the end of the week.

The deadline is March 31, so if you are in NYC area - you should definitely take part in this.
