Photo Essay

I quit !!!

taboo

I never smoked in front of my parents.

all of my smoking years my parents were on me about not smoking - sending me articles, poking me in the ribs...nagging....

well...my mother passed away 10 years ago, and on mother's day after that, I quit smoking for four years.

my father's birthday is wednesday, feb. 11th. he will be 89. next year I told him, he will get the big party, but this year I have nothing to offer him but a promise.

a promise that I will quit on that day, for myself, and for him...while he's here to see it and so he won't survive me.

update

2/11 - today is the first day - I feel better already.

2/12 - surprisingly, no dead bodies....

today is 2/15 - I feel better already, so glad to have been smoke free now for the 5th day...and wow, I can smell someone smoking a cig a mile away...and when I opened an old purse - egad.....nasty.

yipeeeeeeeeeeee

6/13/09 update

still not smoking...!!!!

(kinda felt committed !!!)

You just made me cry. No joke. I wish my father would stop, but he won't listen. I am deathly afraid he will die at a young age like his father. This NEEDS/HAS to be published for all the smokers and their families out there.

As an addict who is currently not abusing (10yrs now) I can tell you that every time you "quit" you will get better at it, each time you ignore the cravings it will get a little easier. But I, at least, am still an addict, I still love the smell of tobacco smoke, I still get cravings, just less often... Good Luck! And don't let little set-backs discourage you.

Hang in there. I've been quit for 21 years now. For me it was easy after a couple of weeks, I just told myself I could never ever have even one more and I have not. However, years later I dreamed that I was smoking a ciggy the size of a telephone pole.....
