Photo Essay

Devastated

Reaching for the Sky

My uncle owns property behind Henry Coe National Park, near Morgan Hill, CA. In September of 2007, there was a fire that devastated much of the park land and surrounding private properties in the vicinity. Luckily, the fire "jumped" over the cabin back there when it came up the valley and did no damage to the structures. It did wipe out a nearby cabin completely, melting most of the metal inside. The fire was started by someone burning their garbage on their property and not putting it out before leaving. She did own up to it afterward and was slapped with a hefty fine. Thank God no one was hurt or killed.

The black and white photos are in order of driving in around October of 2007. The color photos were taken in November of 2008, about a year after the fire had hit. The macro shots were taken of the nearby cabin that was destroyed.

All of these shots were taken on my Canon AE1 and scanned in.
