The Future

Baby Blues

When I was young I dreamed of becoming a wife, having four children and watching them grow. The children became a reality. I watched them grow, become young adults, fall in and out of love. They made mistakes, I picked them up, all the time seeing them as my four beautiful children. Occasionally reminding myself they didn't need quite as much as they used to and seeing them still as my young children. Until my oldest came to me. A beautiful young woman with a glow on her face and a star in her eyes that I only knew to well. She was grown. She was an adult and soon she would be a mother. This was the one thing I never dreamed of nor imagined. How would I handle being a grandmother. I often forgot my seventeen year old was no longer six. I still looked in the mirror and saw myself as twenty something, clinging to my youth. I was there when he was born. I still remember the tears swelling in my eyes. How beautiful he was. Perfection, a blessing, my legacy. This was part of me, my future, my step toward eternity, a gift to me and the world through my daughter. This is what it's all about. This is what makes history, my history, my beautiful grandson.
