Every year, during Holy Week, in the Philippines, people all over swarm to Cutod, Pampanga, to witness the actual nailing of the cross and the sacrifices of flagellants, they would walk miles whipping themselves with a whip tied with sticks in the end making their blood ooze all over their body, till they reach the hill where the crucifixion will take place, kneel and remove the crown of thorns from their head and hang it on the cross.
Flagellation is an all-male ritual.They believe that by doing so--they will be redeemed from sins.
