Every year, thousands of pilgrims come to pray in the mourning wall.

The 'mourning wall' is the outer wall of a fortress surrounding the Temple (and not the wall of the temple itself as it is commonly understood).

Technically, people could mourn on any side of the wall - most part of it is visible and above the ground - but this little section is the closest to the Jewish Quarter in Jerusalem and the accessible part of the wall, part of Israel, according tho the 1968 peace agreement.

It is very striking to see the myriads of religious tourists coming to pray, and the joy on their faces when they see the wall for the first time.
