Kyrgyzstan, which was controlled by the Russians long before the creation of the Soviet Union, had a large Russian Orthodox following for many years. Since independence (following the collapse of the Soviet Union), Islam has flourished while followers of the Orthodox Church have dwindled. Nontheless, there is still faith.
