The red burst of the light leaks actually feels a bit like the dissonance caused by the need for faith and our own rational processes. We need the universe to make sense, so we tell ourselves stories about what it must be all about but then we continually question and evaluate and, I think, too often we get so caught up in the tension and confusion of that, that we lose both our faith and our reason.
