Thanks to an Audubon Nature Encyclopedia book published in 1965 I now know what this is. It is a Pelecinus Wasp Female

This insect I saw only once in 06 got photo never seen again.

    It looks like a mechanical machine out of the War of the Worlds! Great capture of it, love the lighting too! Voted.
