10,000 Japanese Origami Cranes
Submitted to Photo Challenge: Folded Paper
The 10,000 cranes over the staircase were sent to the 9/11 Tribute Center by family, friends and co-workers of the victims from the Fuji Bank (WTC2). 4,000 of these cranes were made by schoolchildren in Japan:
"In Japan, the crane is considered to be a lucky bird and a symbol of long life and healing. We, the Japanese families, relatives, friends and colleagues, dedicate these paper cranes to the Tribute Center for our loved ones and all innocent victims of 9/11. By sending these cranes, we also express our hope for attaining a peaceful world."
