String of Bad Luck
This gentleman approached me for across the street in downtown Calgary after he thought I was photographing him from the opposite side of the road without his permission. After explaining to him that I wasn't in fact doing that and showed him some of the shots I had taken on my LCD he settled down a bit. We had a short conversation discussing what I did for a living, which carried over to how he ended up on the downtown streets following a string of bad luck. After beating an addiction he was diagnosed with cancer, and to top it all off he fractured his leg hence the crutches in his portrait.

This has an American Civil War quality to it...the sepia tone and then the columns in the background and most of all the man...his hair..and the crutches and the war wound look in his eyes...(the fact that he took off his cap for the photo) but he still has a fierceness, he will not give up easily, I don't think...
