Slaves were listed as inventory and like an aunt's favorite set of dishes. This is a will that was burned onto wood for display purposes at the museum.

To treat people as object, that is the lowest mankind got, and it happened several times in the modern history. To African Americans, to us (Jews) in Germany, and there are more, less systemic, samples. I especially noticed the marking "(epileptic)", signed to one of the people - listed not just as an object, but as a faulty one.
